A stiff ankle can change the way the rest of your body moves.
Walking is a chain of coordinated movement. The ankle, knee, hip, and spine each contribute. If one part has limited motion after an injury, other regions sometimes compensate.
That does not mean every episode of back pain begins in the ankles. It means the ankles deserve consideration when evaluating posture, balance, gait, and lower-body mechanics. A careful examination can help identify which areas are contributing to a patient’s symptoms.
Care may include mobility work, strengthening, balance exercises, and joint treatment when appropriate. The goal is to improve daily function, reduce uncomfortable movement patterns, and help patients return to activities they enjoy.
